First GMTK Game Jam

Hello! I just finished my first GMTK Game Jam one hour ago!

It’s called Time Loop. I wish I had more time to think of a better name - especially after seeing the other games with the same name, since the theme of the jam was Loop. The main character in the game is a time traveler in search for the inventor of the Time Machine. Though I didn’t have much time to fully flesh out the whole story, I can explain more here.

To the protagonist, time travel is a problem. He was tasked by his crew to go back in time to find the person who invented the fist time machine. They know the location and the day however, they do not know who actually invented it. So, he goes back in time to search and destroy anything that seems like it may be the first time machine.

The game mixes humor and mystery. I created a slightly eerie atmosphere for it. As for how I made the art, I created 3D models in Blender and then animated them, rendered the images and animations, and then loaded them on to GameMaker Studio - the first game engine I ever used. Though there are many incredible game engines, I still love GameMaker for its simplicity since I’ve gotten so used to it.

Back to the graphics, I’ve always loved the look of pre rendered art and I’ve been wanting to try it for a long time so I finally started learning the past month or two. I had always just done 2D art with illustrator or photoshop but I was getting sick of typical 2D art. I’ve also tried making art for 3D games however, frankly, there’s too much to learn and I have a full time job already lol

With this project though, I discovered how much I love making pre rendered art and I truly recommend it to anyone experiencing the same dilemma as me.

So, this game really took me to the limit though as far as time goes! I only had about 32 hours all together to complete it because of my life schedule and with the game jam time limit. I pushed harder than I ever have with game development! Especially since I was using an art style that was completely new to me.

I also created all the music included in the game, however, unfortunately I didn’t have time to craft music specifically for the game. I ran out of time and had to look through my library of music I’ve made already to find music that fit. If a had half a day more, I could’ve made music and sound effects specifically tailored. I also wish I had more time to add more art assets but, with all that said, I absolutely did my best within the time limit.

I hope many people play the game and enjoy it!

If anyone would like to collaborate with me, please let me know!

Thank you for your time!
